As RVHR would like to accommodate every horse in need of a safe place to land, there is only so much room and funding to care for all the horses here at RVHR at this time. Our priority is the horses in need of assistance through County Animal Control referrals and seizures.

On some occasions, there is an open space here at RVHR for what we call a Horse in need of Rehoming (owner release, relinquishment, intakes). Owner Rehoming requests are selected from horses listed through the Virginia Partnership for Horses, which now has a Direct Placement Program. Here you will fill out the Pre-Assessment Form.

Horses listed in this program are considered first by RVHR when space is available. NOTE: Horses listed in this program are also available for placement with families and other rescues throughout Virginia for rehoming.

When a space is available here at RVHR, staff will select a horse through this program from the horses listed in the Direct Placement Program.
