Patricia Gillar Muncy grew up in Old Bridge, NJ, where her lifelong passion for horses began at age 10, thanks to her sister and brother-in-law, who owned race horses. But she would have to wait until she started RVHR before she got her very own first horse, Pal.  A real fighter, she adopted him from a rescue in Virginia, where he had been brought after being purchased at a slaughter auction for just $20.00. Pat moved to Southwestern Virginia in the early 1990’s.

But then, together with her then fiancé, Jason, who is now IT Systems Administrator at Good Samaritan Hospice and RVHR’s Board of Directors Chairman, they both sold their homes in 2002 and promptly purchased the present RVHR property. Thus, she began fulfilling her dream of helping abused, neglected, and abandoned horses. There was already a horse rescue in the area, but Pat believed that to be truly effective, a rescue needed to operate from not only from deep-seated compassion, but from a professional standpoint as well. It is with that business drive that she has been able, for example, to succeed in the Grants arena, as made evident by a Medical Barn. In this way, she has effected real positive and real change for the horses in her care, both permanent residents and those who are in need of a forever home. In 2005, she also became a Certified Equine Cruelty Investigator.
