In April 2024, RVHR attended its first horse auction sale, rescuing eight horses from the stockyard in New Holland, Pennsylvania. Out of these eight horses, five have found new homes, one remains at RVHR, and two were humanely euthanized. Recognizing the significant need to help horses at risk of slaughter, we launched our “Final Bid For Freedom” Auction Program.
**How the Program Works:**
When space is available, the RVHR staff will create a funding campaign on social media and send emails to our supporters and followers, informing them of our upcoming attendance at a horse auction.
Once funding is raised, staff will attend the auction with the objective of bidding on any horse that they believe deserves a chance at a new life, or those that require medical care. We can only bid with the funds that are raised for that specific auction.
The funds raised are deposited into a separate account designated solely for bidding, attending the auction (transport, fuel, accommodation for out-of-state auctions, meals for staff), and providing care for the auction horses after they arrive at RVHR until they are adopted from our facility. This funding will also cover the costs of euthanizing any horse that cannot live a better, pain-free quality of life.
If you would like to help bid on a horse at the next horse auction we will be attending, donations are being accepted at our online GiveDirect portal. Click Here
