Blair gave birth to Ripley “a.k.a. Hurricane Hugh” on April 19th, 2004, at 12:45 am. It was a very exciting event! We took lots of photos and video clips\u00a0 for those who could not be there. Since Ripley’s birth the Board of Directors has placed Blair on permanent resident status here at RVHR for the rest of her life\u00a0as the birth was\u00a0a difficult\u00a0one\u00a0because\u00a0of her leg injuries. It is our goal to keep her from ever foaling again.<\/p>\n

Ripley\u00a0was adopted by\u00a0a wonderful family who put in their application on\u00a0him prior to his birth. This family had\u00a0asked to adopt Blair’s foal, if it lived, and was accepted at that time.\u00a0Given all\u00a0the trauma\u00a0from the trailer accident, which brought Blair to us in the first place, and\u00a0the medication\u00a0she was taking when she first arrived, as we did not know she was pregnant,\u00a0 RVHR and her veternarian expected there would be many problems with the foal. To everyone’s amazement Ripley is a perfect colt with no visible or expected deformities. Other than a few initial\u00a0afterbirth problems with nursing, colic and a\u00a0plasma transfer for lack of antibodies in his system, his future\u00a0now looks quite bright.\u00a0Mother and son\u00a0will be leaving us on Friday, April 30th, for Ripley’s new home where his\u00a0forever family can bond with him and help him grow into the man he is meant to be. Blair will be fostered\u00a0there until it is time to wean\u00a0her boy.\u00a0Then she will return to RVHR to live out the rest of her live with\u00a0our staff, members and volunteers who have come to love her so much.<\/p>\n
