FRANKLIN COUNTY, VA —<\/p>\n

For eight years, the Roanoke Valley Horse Rescue (RVHR)\u00a0has been a home for abandoned and abused animals.\u00a0 But finding money to operate the rescue has been difficult.<\/p>\n

“It was really scary that we were not going to be able to do it. We would have had to stop taking in horses,\u201d said owner Pat Muncy.<\/p>\n

In late 2010 the RVHR said they were $17,000 in debt.\u00a0 Between grants and personal donations they now have a surplus of $8,500, which is all going back to the horses.<\/p>\n

“We are excited. \u00a0I mean, we are going into a whole new year, and with a brilliant outlook of what is to come,” said Muncy.<\/p>\n

Now that veterinarian and hay bills are paid off, the\u00a0RVHR is looking to improve their facilities.\u00a0 The groups has already been able to rebuild some of their stalls.\u00a0 Next on the list is a medical barn that will provide care for the horses at the rescue, as well as private owners.\u00a0 This will allow the rescue to give back to a giving community.<\/p>\n

“We don’t actually have to sit there and mix and match.\u00a0 Each individual thing that we have to be able to grow into now is incredibly helpful,\u201d said Raymond Wickersty, the owner\u2019s son and helper at the rescue.<\/p>\n

“Any non-profit, it serves a purpose.\u00a0 Not only for what they set out to do, but also for the community itself.\u00a0 It’s part of the community. \u00a0It’s part of the individuals that live within it,\u201d said Wickersty.<\/p>\n

But for Pat, being able to continue her passion to help animals is the greatest gift she has received.<\/p>\n
