Dovie Muncy Sowards, 79, of Salem, went to sing with the angels Wednesday, June 19, 2013. She was a lifetime resident of Wise County. Dovie devoted her life to singing and preserving Traditional Appalachian Music. She was always willing to devote her time and talent to sing and play her autoharp in support of her passion for music. For many years, she performed as “Just Dovie,” singing and playing for the Southwest Appalachian Mountain Region. She is survived by her brother, Milford G. Scott and wife, Cecilia, of Lawton, Okla.; her sister, Nancy S. Jones and husband, William, of Duffield; her sons, Russell E. Muncy and wife, Linda, of Salem, and Stephen J. Muncy and wife, Debby, of Check; her grandchildren, Jason E. Muncy and wife, Patricia, Joshua R. Muncy and wife, Angelia, Stephanie M. Brooks and husband, Chris, Brandi M. Ingram and husband, Wayne, Emily M. Muncy, and Cassie D. Muncy; three great-granddaughters; one stepgreat-granddaughter; two stepgreat-grandsons; and three nieces and two nephews, as well as their families. A celebration of life will be held at the Country Cabin at 6234 Kent Junction Road in Norton 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to your favorite charity .
