After extensive research, RVHR is pleased to announce its use of a new identification system for our rescue horses. RVHR recently began using the AVID (American Veterinary Identification Devices) Microchip for identification of all RVHR horses. We are extremely excited about this new identification system not only for the rescue horses, but also at the possibility of assisting the community in identifying or preventing lost or stolen horses.
RVHR will begin scanning each horse upon arrival to ensure that the horse is not stolen or lost. The possibility of reunited a lost or stolen horse with its rightful owner is a wonderful thought. Prior to a horse being adopted, each RVHR horse, regardless of age, will have a microchip placed. The AVID chip can be scanned after placement for identification by our staff during home visits with a rescue horse. Due to the increasing number of rescues and adoptions, this will enable us to property identify adopted horses who may be with larger herds.
The insertion procedure is extremely safe to both equines and owners, as it involves only a simple injection. The chips are guaranteed for the life of the horse and are a great alternative to branding. If you would like more information on placing a microchip in your equine, you can visit http://www.avidequineid.com or contact RVHR.
Our program is now in place, we look forward to informing and assisting the community with this equine identification system.
